The Parque de las Ciencias Granada is a vast, interactive science museum spanning 70,000 square metres on the southwest edge of Granada. Since opening in 1995, it has become one of the best places to visit in Granada for families and curious travellers. Its blend of indoor galleries, outdoor exhibits, planetarium shows, and wildlife areas make it a great place to visit on a walking tour of Granada, especially if you enjoy hands-on learning.

With seven permanent exhibition halls, a digital planetarium, a tropical butterfly house, and one of the city’s best viewpoints from the 50-metre Astronomical Tower, the Science Park is designed to make discovery fun at any age.

History and Significance of the Parque de las Ciencias Granada

Opened in 1995, the Parque de las Ciencias was created to bring science, technology, and environmental education to the public in an engaging way. Over the years it expanded with new pavilions, outdoor gardens, and its impressive BioDomo-an immersive biodiversity experience. Its mission combines research, conservation, and education, making it one of Spain’s leading scientific museums.

The park reflects a modern approach to learning: interactive, multisensory, and deeply connected to the natural world. Its exhibits highlight Andalusia’s contributions to science along with global discoveries across physics, biology, astronomy, and engineering.

Things to See and Do at the Parque de las Ciencias Granada

Inside the museum you’ll find seven permanent halls exploring themes such as health, mechanics, Andalusian scientific heritage, perception, literature, and the natural environment. The Perception Room allows visitors to experiment with sound, mirrors, light, and optical illusions, while the Explore Room offers more than 20 hands-on activities for children aged 3 to 7.

The Human Body exhibition is one of the museum’s most popular experiences-an interactive journey into anatomy, evolution, and how our organs function. The Biosphere Room lets you observe piranhas, monitor global population growth, and encounter DNA in a vivid, accessible way.

Outdoors, 27,000 square metres of gardens surround the museum. Highlights include the Tropical Butterfly House, the Observatory, the BioDomo, the Maze, Birds of Prey Workshops, and botanical trails. The 50-metre Astronomical Observation Tower offers panoramic views of Granada and is particularly magical during night-sky viewing sessions.

Reviews Summary

Parque de las Ciencias, on Av. de la Ciencia in Granada, is a large, interactive science park where visitors can spend several hours exploring hands-on museum exhibits (natural history, human body, space and rotating temporary displays), a planetarium with periodic short shows, a BioDomo showcasing terrestrial, freshwater and marine species, a butterfly area, robotics and physics demonstrations, and an observation tower with panoramic views; families praise it as especially good for children, note separate admission for museum, biodome and planetarium, suggest allowing half a day or more, and visitors report well‑maintained exhibits but mixed feelings about the outdoor birds display.

"We visited the Granada Science Park (Parque de las Ciencias) and was thoroughly impressed. It's an excellent value for money and a perfect way tospend a full day, especially if you have young children. The highlight of my visit was the ESA space section. It's a fascinating exhibition showcasing a wide array of space-related artifacts and engaging videos. The planetarium show was also a spectacular experience, offering a breathtaking journey through the cosmos. Another must-see is the Bio-dome. This incredibly interesting exhibit is home to a diverse mix of marine life, tropical reptiles, and mammals, all housed in a beautiful, naturalistic environment. We also ventured up the observation tower for some incredible panoramic views of Granada. While the elevator was unfortunately out of order, the climb up in the 30°C heat was well worth it for the stu ing vistas at the top. Overall, the Granada Science Park is a brilliant place to visit. It's educational, entertaining, and great for all ages. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Granada...."

"We really liked our stay at this scince park. We've spent around 3 hours at the park, roamed through museum - seen the human body, butterflies, labirinth, many animal skeletons, a few cars... also went to biodomo which is not big nor small. In biodomo you can see different species of animals and it takes about 40min to see everything. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much, recommend...."

"Just spent a day at this science park in Granada, and my mind is still buzzing! It’s like stepping into a playground where curiosity runswild—interactive exhibits, a planetarium that feels like a cosmic journey, and a BioDomo with creatures roaming free. My kids were glued to the robotics display, and I couldn’t resist playing with the physics gadgets myself. A quirky fact: the Foucault Pendulum here swings to show Earth’s rotation mind-blowing to see science in action! Tickets are €7 for adults, €6 for kids under 18, and free for little ones under 3. Tip: bring comfy shoes, grab a map at the Macroscopio entrance, and plan at least 5 hours to soak it all in. Don’t skip the bird of prey show it’s wild..."
