Mirador Romántico

Viewing Point in Granada

The Mirador Romántico or Romantic Viewpoint is a viewing point in the Generalife in the Alhambra Complex, in Granada, Spain. It is an observatory that provides a panoramic view of the surrounding area, including the Alhambra.

History and Architecture of the Mirador Romántico

It is thought that the Mirador Romántico may have been built over the remains of a Muslim oratory, due to the orientation and other details, although it is somewhat difficult to  prove without an archaeological excavations. The Mirador Romántico we see today was built in 1836 by Don Jaime Traversa – many years after the fall of the Nasrids. He was the administrator of the Generalife at that time. The building is a neo-gothic style building and does not fit well with the rest of the buildings in the Generalife because it is not a Nasrid-era building – this is especially true if we compare this romantic viewpoint with that of Mirador de Daraxa in the Palacio de los Leones.
