Church in Guimarães
At the termination of an extensive and graceful formal garden stands the slender Church of Our Lady of Consolation and the Holy Steps, which is considered one of Portugal’s most exquisite baroque churches. Its construction commenced in the 18th century, and two pointed towers were later added almost a century afterward. The steps and balustrade were also erected around the same period. The interior is remarkably neoclassical, while the exterior is particularly enchanting during the Christmas season, when every part of its facade is embellished with ornamental lights.
