The Blandy’s Wine Lodge narrates the centuries-long history of the exceptional Madeira wine, which has carried the archipelago’s name across the globe. Situated in a collection of Baroque civil architecture buildings, including the oldest Madeira wine cellars from the 17th and 18th centuries, this space stands on the grounds where the old Convent of São Francisco once stood before its demolition in the 19th century. In 1913, the ‘Madeira Wine Association,’ now known as the ‘Madeira Wine Company,’ was established, uniting various companies and independent growers.

The Blandy’s Wine Lodge is now home to a museum of significant interest. Within the exhibition area, visitors can trace the journey of Madeira wine, from the vineyard production process to its transformation, with insights into its different varieties such as Sercial, Malvasia, Verdelho, and Boal.

At the Blandy’s Wine Lodge, guests can explore tasting rooms, ageing chambers, and a wine shop offering an excellent selection of products.
