Local guides share stories about the region's wildlife and history, while eagles and herons soar overhead. Whether you're after a relaxing cruise, a refreshing swim, or simply a day of scenic exploration, Green Canyon is a perfect escape from the coastal bustle.

History and Significance

The Green Canyon was formed after the completion of the Oymapinar Dam in the 1980s, one of Turkey's largest hydroelectric projects. The dam created a deep, narrow lake nestled between dramatic limestone cliffs. Though it's a modern creation, the area has become a natural wonder in its own right, blending engineering achievement with stunning landscape. The name “Green Canyon” comes from the water's unique hue, caused by the reflection of the surrounding forests and mineral-rich rock formations.

Things to See and Do

The most popular way to experience the Green Canyon is by taking a boat tour, which usually lasts around three to four hours. These cruises glide across the calm waters, stopping at hidden coves and swimming spots along the way. For those seeking adventure, kayaking and paddleboarding are available in some areas, while hiking trails along the rim of the canyon offer panoramic views. The peaceful setting also makes it a great place for birdwatching or simply enjoying a leisurely lunch overlooking the lake.

Reviews Summary

Green Canyon, located at Yukarısı Hisar, Hastane Cd. No: 11/3 in Akseki, Antalya, is a quiet, well-preserved mountain reservoir known for emerald-green water, dramatic cliffs and lush forests; most visitors take a scenic boat tour that follows the canyon (about 1–1.75 hours), with opportunities to swim in a designated spot where changing cabins, life jackets and a short swim window are provided, and photographers sometimes take photos onboard; the boat rides are relaxed and romantic—crew may play music and offer complimentary soft drinks—so bring swimsuits, towels and some cash for tips or photo purchases, and note there's minimal onsite infrastructure beyond parking, a pier and a souvenir shop, and food options can be pricey.

"The Green Canyon tour was really interesting! The views were stu ing, and the mountains looked absolutely amazing. The program was the following: 30minutes for swimming and 30 minutes for boating. At the swimming spot, there were changing cabins, and for those afraid of deep water, life jackets were available. The boat ride was the highlight for us - the drivers played music, which made it feel very romantic. Soft drinks on board were free, but food was not provided. There was also a photographer on the boat taking pictures of everyone (for free), and later you could choose to buy the photos you liked. At the end, the boat driver “hinted” that the crew earns very little and suggested leaving tips. So besides swimsuits and towels, it’s a good idea to bring some coins with you as well...."

"A breathtaking place. It’s a very quiet and preserved place in the mountains; perfect for a day out when you’re in Türkiye. 🇹🇷 Going on a boat trip, you can see the beautiful mountains, forests, and wildlife around you. To swim, the water is murky (not because it’s dirty, but because of the green colour) and very cold to swim in. Because it’s a reservoir, it’s a bit more difficult to float than sea water (as it’s freshwater) so keep this in mind if you’re pla ing on swimming! It was quite windy but in the sun and 40C weather this was good for us. Of course as it’s in the middle of nowhere, there isn’t anything here but the parking, pier, and a souvenir shop. There’s not much to do here other than take a boat trip, but either way it is a lovely place to visit if you’re around the area. At times it was a little boring, but that was quickly resolved by observing the beautiful nature...."
