The church, located in a historic area of ​​the city,is not particularly striking from the outside, but as soon as you cross the threshold, you will discover a beautiful and unusual building. Unlike other basilicas, whose structure resembles a cross, the central structure of this church is an octagon that rises to a significant height. This shape creates a spacious and central interior space, emphasizing the large dome in the center. It was built in the 18th century and was influenced by the late Baroque style. Around the central space of the church there are eight chapels - one chapel on each side of the octagon. These chapels are small churches that stand on their own and add a dimension of visual richness to the overall space. The central dome is beautiful and decorated with colorful frescoes. The light that penetrates through the window in the dome illuminates the entrance space and the frescoes in an amazing way. "Very charming church, it's high dome and tower can be seen across Livorno. I found it's worn and half maintained look interesting and poignant. Theinside is surprising lavish with nice statues and murals, but its a shame the painting on the Dome have crumbled. The entire area is a great stop off point as you walk though Neovo Venice...."
