Nestled within the historical heart of La Spezia stands the CAMEC – Center of Modern and Contemporary Art, an artistic haven ensconced within a 1920s building that once served as the seat of Justice. The museum’s collection is ingeniously partitioned into three distinct sections: the Cozzani collection, the Battolini collection, and the Golfo Prize collection. The Cozzani collection, a testament to the artistic generosity of Ilda and Giorgio Cozzani, comprises 1157 works gifted to the city in 1999. This compilation predominantly features drawings, graphics, paintings, and approximately 80 sculptures, encapsulating the multifaceted artistic styles that have blossomed throughout the 20th century.

The Battolini section finds its origin in the contributions of Anna Maria and Ferruccio Battolini to the Municipality, enriching the museum’s offerings further. Lastly, the Golfo Prize Collection is intrinsically tied to the esteemed national painting award of the same name. The inception of this accolade dates back to 1933 under the visionary Filippo Tommaso Marinetti. After a pause following World War II, the event was revived from 1949 to 1965, and, following an extended hiatus, it was rejuvenated in 2000 to be organized biennially.
