The Oratoire du Rocher de la Sentinelle is a fascinating historical site located in Penvénan, Brittany, France. This rocky outcrop, once used for coastal surveillance, was originally topped with a watch post to monitor enemy incursions from the small islands of the Port-Blanc bay. Over time, its defensive role faded, and in the early 20th century, the site was transformed into a religious monument at the initiative of Théodore Botrel.

Botrel, a Breton poet and songwriter, oversaw the reconstruction of the watch post and added two statues: Saint Tugdual, a patron saint of Brittany, and Notre-Dame de la Mer, symbolizing protection for sailors. At the base of the rock, visitors can also find an old powder magazine, a remnant of its military past. The site's strategic location offers breathtaking views of the coastline and surrounding waters, making it a popular spot for visitors exploring the Côte de Granit Rose.

The oratory itself, crowned with a cross, stands as a testament to the region's maritime heritage and spiritual traditions.
