"So, you'll find the Duc An House on Tran Phu Street. It's a classic Hoi An shophouse—you know, one of those super long and narrow ones with a shop inthe front and a courtyard in the middle. The house has a really interesting history, too. In 1908, it became a Chinese medicine shop. Later, in the 1920s, it was a popular spot for intellectuals to hang out, like the famous activist Phan Chu Trinh...."

"The Old House, built in 1830 by the Phan family has been their home for 8 generations. It’s beside the river and still retains the architecturalstyle and charm of that period. It has withstood many historical events including wars and natural disasters, possibly due to the superstitious “eye” motif at the entrance that wards of evil spirits? Today the rooms and corridors within display valued artifacts and the residue of a bookstore, dispensary, a shrine, family room and meditation space. Its a unique insight into the Vietnamese way of life...."

"We visited the old house of Duc An and were shown round by the grandson (i think). Basically we could only take a look downstairs as the family livedupstairs. He showed us photos on the wall of Duc An, with Uncle Ho and General Giap as well as other interesting artifacts. If we did not have our Hoi An ticket that allowed us to visit 5 locations i would never pay to see this place...."

"This house has been kept in the family for generations with many original items found in the home. Great architecture from Chinese, Japanese andVietnamese influences. Plus you can see the “Greedy” cup! The home has been there so long that it has withstood many floods. Markers near the back showcase where the water has risen to and it’s crazy!..."
