Sapa Lake is a sparkling gem located in the center of Sapa town. It is conveniently situated between Ngu Chi Son, Pham Kim Dong, and Xuan Vien routes, making it easily accessible. Initially built by local residents to promote tourism, Sapa Lake has become one of the top tourist attractions in the area.
The creation of Sapa Lake was a challenging and costly endeavor due to the mountainous terrain and numerous caves. Initial attempts to block the dam with cement, concrete, and mortar were unsuccessful as the materials were washed away into the caves. To overcome this, alluvial soil from the distant Red River was used to retain the water. The project required the mobilization of many buffaloes and young people from local ethnic groups, who worked tirelessly day and night.
Once the dam was successfully constructed and the lake formed, the surrounding landscape was further enhanced with the planting of trees and flowers. Benches were also placed along the lakeside, offering visitors a place to rest and enjoy the tranquil environment while strolling around the lake. Today, Sapa Lake stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the local community, providing a peaceful retreat for all who visit.
