The Sainte-Trinité Hospital, also known as the Hospice de la Charité de Beaune, is a historical former hospital located at 3 rue Rousseau Deslandes and 20 rue Marie Favart in Beaune. Constructed in 1645 by Antoine Rousseau and Barbe Deslandes, it has undergone numerous modifications and expansions over the centuries. On December 12, 1975, the chapel, sacristy, reception office, and the sisters’ refectory were designated as historic monuments. Additionally, the facades and roofs of the 17th and 18th-century buildings surrounding the main courtyard, along with two entrance portals, were also included in the historical monument inventory on the same date.

History The hospital was established in 1645, incorporating structures from the late 15th and early 16th centuries, some of which were preserved in the construction of the west building in the latter half of the 17th century. The founders’ house likely dates back to the first half of the 17th century. The main building adjacent to it and the structures along rue Rousseau-Deslandes were added in the 18th century. These buildings underwent interior renovations, including new paneling and fireplaces. The “East” building was constructed between 1820 and 1826 based on designs by architect Louis Moyne. Later, a “North” wing facing the street was added in 1892.

Description The hospice complex is organized around a closed rectangular main courtyard, accessed from the south through a basket-handle gate set in an arched wall that connects the old founders’ house to the large Sainte-Anne Saint-Antoine building on the east. The West building houses the apartments of the community of sisters and orphans. Today, the hospice serves as a home for the elderly, continuing its long-standing tradition of community service and care.
