Posttheater is one of Arnhem's most beloved small performance venues, known for cabaret, comedy, and intimate live shows in a classic, no-fuss setting. It sits on Rosendaalsestraat, just outside the busiest city-center streets, making it an easy add-on to an evening stroll through Arnhem.

Because it's close to Velperplein and the station area, it also works well as a stop on a self-guided walking tour: pair a show here with a wander through nearby neighborhoods, then finish the night with a drink back in the city center.

History and Significance of the Posttheater

Posttheater has built its reputation as a compact, audience-friendly stage where you feel close to the performers. Instead of a grand, formal concert-hall vibe, it leans into the charm of a smaller room, which is exactly why many visitors prefer it for comedy and cabaret.

In Arnhem’s cultural landscape, it’s often seen as a place to catch emerging talent, try-outs, and programming that feels curated for people who like their theater nights relaxed and personal. That “small room, big laughs” energy is a big part of its significance in the city.

The building’s older character adds to the atmosphere, but it also shapes the experience: expect a traditional venue feel rather than modern, high-tech comfort in every corner.

Things to See and Do in the Posttheater

The main event is the performance itself, and Posttheater shines when you're there for comedy, cabaret, and smaller-scale productions where timing, crowd energy, and audience connection matter. If you like being close enough to catch facial expressions and improvisation, this venue delivers.

Arrive early enough to enjoy the pre-show buzz in the lobby, but be aware it can feel crowded on busy nights. Many visitors like stepping outside briefly for fresh air, then heading in once doors open.

If you're planning a longer Arnhem weekend, keep an eye out for deals or bundles (when available) and consider choosing a show that fits your travel style: a light comedy set after sightseeing, or a more narrative cabaret night as your main evening plan.

How to Get to the Posttheater

The nearest major airports are Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS), Eindhoven Airport (EIN), and Düsseldorf Airport (DUS). For the best deals and a seamless booking experience, check out these flights to Arnhem on Booking.com.

From elsewhere in the Netherlands, Arnhem is straightforward by rail, and once you're in the city you can connect by local train or bus toward Velperplein and the station area. Train tickets and schedules are available directly through NS Dutch Railways and NS International for international services. However, for a smoother experience, we recommend using Omio, which simplifies the booking process and lets you compare prices and schedules all in one place.

If you’re driving, aim for a nearby garage and build in extra time, as parking can be tricky at peak hours around showtime.

Is the Posttheater Worth Visiting?

Yes, especially if you like comedy, cabaret, and intimate venues where the audience-performer connection is part of the fun. The programming and cozy scale make it feel like a local favorite rather than a tourist stop, and it’s easy to reach by train.

Honest Pivot: if you strongly prefer spacious lobbies, cooler indoor temperatures, and larger, more modern theaters, you may enjoy a bigger venue in Arnhem more. Posttheater is at its best when you're there for the atmosphere and the closeness to the stage.

"A small but cosy theatre. The lobby fils up very quickly and gets way too crowded, but you can easily go outside where there is room to stand. Easilyreached by train, the station is a few meters from the theatre...."

"A nice and cozy theater. The room is simple not that big making the atmosphere a lot more intimate than, let's say, Musis. However the temperature inhere is just too high. It being an older building, you can expect state of the art air conditioning or any A/C for that matter. though I have to state that I am always warm, I can't imagine this being nice for the performers. Drink prices are about average. A beer and soda cost me about €5-6. Consumptions aren't allowed to be taken into the theater itself and as such must be consumed in the lobby/bar. But, as stated, it's warm and cozy and that makes up for a lot...."

"Great show. We watched a comedy/musical performance of about an hour and a half and we all loved it. Everyone is friendly and you even get a freedrink afterwards, totally unexpected and overall fantastic experience...."

For Different Travelers

Posttheater works best as an evening anchor: sightseeing by day, then a show at night. Because it's compact and close to transport, it's easy to fit into many itineraries without overplanning.

Families with Kids

For families, Posttheater can be a good pick if you choose the right performance and timing. The smaller room can help kids stay engaged because the action feels close and immediate.

That said, many shows skew toward adult comedy or cabaret, so it’s worth checking age guidance and content notes before booking. If you’re traveling with younger children, consider an earlier start time or a shorter-format show.

Couples & Romantic Getaways

For couples, it's a great “date-night” venue: intimate seating, a lively pre-show buzz, and an easy walk or quick ride back to central Arnhem afterward. The closeness to the stage makes even simple productions feel special.

Make it a full evening by booking dinner nearby, then arriving a bit early so you’re not rushed. If you like comedy, a cabaret night here can be a fun, low-pressure alternative to a formal concert hall.

Budget Travelers

Budget travelers will appreciate that smaller venues often have approachable ticket pricing compared with major halls, and the experience still feels like a proper night out. It’s also easy to reach without taxis if you’re staying near the station.

To keep costs down, pick a weekday show, book early for the best-value seats, and plan a simple pre-show meal nearby. If you’re flexible, you may also find special deals or bundles during certain periods.
