The Pico do Facho Viewpoint, situated above the Machico valley, provides visitors with a stunning panoramic view, making it one of the most privileged locations for observing Madeira’s east coast.

Positioned along a pathway that ascends to the summit of Pico do Facho before reaching the Caniçal tunnel, this observatory holds historical significance for the region. In times past, large bonfires were lit at this site to warn the population about the approach of enemy vessels, given its elevated altitude.

Located at an elevation of 280 meters, the Pico do Facho Viewpoint offers a distinctive vantage point over the city of Machico. The panoramic vista encompasses the mountain peaks of central Madeira, Ponta de São Lourenço on the eastern tip of the island, and the Desertas Islands (Ilhéu Chão, Deserta Grande, and Bugio) to the southeast.

A visit to the Pico do Facho Viewpoint not only provides breathtaking views but also offers insights into the geological history of Madeira, showcasing the island’s volcanic origins and its unique relationship with the surrounding landscape.
