Mã Pí Lèng Pass
Hike, Pass and Viewing Point in Ha Giang

The Mã Pí Lèng Pass, standing at an altitude of 1,500 meters, is Vietnam’s most awe-inspiring mountain pass. Nestled between Đồng Văn and Mèo Vạc in Hà Giang Province near the Chinese border, it is widely regarded as the most spectacular mountain road in the country.

Part of National Road 4C, also known as “The Happiness Road,” this iconic route was constructed in the 1960s by thousands of workers, primarily local ethnic minorities. The monumental project took 11 years to complete.
Often referred to as the “King of Vietnamese Mountain Passes,” Mã Pí Lèng features dramatic cliffs, sheer drop-offs, and a series of dizzying hairpin bends. The road hugs the mountainside, offering breathtaking and romantic views that make it a dream destination for motorcyclists. Known as the “Great Wall of Vietnam,” the ascent to the top feels like stepping into a magical realm, with landscapes that are nothing short of otherworldly.
