Dong Khoi Street is one of the most vibrant and iconic roads in Ho Chi Minh City, famously featured in Graham Greene’s novel The Quiet American, which was later adapted into a popular Hollywood film.

Stretching between Nguyen Du Street and Ton Duc Thang Street, Dong Khoi was once known as Rue Catinat during the French colonial period. The street is lined with elegant French colonial buildings, and its name was changed to Tu Do Street, or Freedom Street, during the brief period of South Vietnam’s government. After the reunification of Vietnam in 1975, it was renamed Dong Khoi, which translates to “Total Revolution Street.”

Dong Khoi Street is home to some of Ho Chi Minh City’s most significant landmarks. The area is lined with famous restaurants, including Nam Kha, and luxurious hotels like the Caravelle, the Continental, and the Majestic. The street also boasts a mix of upscale shopping malls and local boutiques, where you can find exquisite silk garments and embroidered textiles. Key landmarks include the Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica, the Saigon Opera House, and the Central Post Office, making this street a must-visit for both history and shopping enthusiasts.
