Deauville-Normandie Airport (DOL) is the main aviation gateway to the Normandy coast and the elegant seaside town of Deauville. Located around 7 km from the city centre, this small but functional airport is ideal for travellers heading to Normandy's beaches, charming market towns, and D-Day historical sites. It primarily operates seasonal routes but offers smooth arrivals and departures with minimal queues.

Whether you are beginning a coastal holiday or connecting to wider Normandy, this guide explains everything you need to know about navigating the airport comfortably and efficiently.

Why This Airport Matters

Deauville-Normandie Airport is particularly useful for travellers seeking a hassle-free arrival close to Normandy's popular coastal resorts. Compared to larger airports such as Paris Charles de Gaulle or Caen-Carpiquet, it offers a quieter, faster alternative with shorter travel times to Deauville, Honfleur, and the surrounding villages.

It is especially convenient for visitors attending major events such as the Deauville American Film Festival, horse racing fixtures, or summer beach holidays, where avoiding urban congestion makes the journey far smoother.

History and Significance

Opened in the 1930s and later modernised, Deauville-Normandie Airport has long served as a regional hub for leisure travellers. Its strategic position on the Normandy coast made it important for both tourism and seasonal charter operations. As air travel expanded, the airport adapted to accommodate international charter flights that bring visitors directly to the region's resorts.

The airport's role has grown gradually as Deauville developed into one of France's premier seaside destinations, with the airport supporting tourism, conferences, and high-profile cultural events.

Airport Layout and Quick Facts

The airport has a single terminal, making navigation quick and straightforward. Check-in counters, security, and departure gates are all located within short walking distance of one another, allowing travellers to move easily through the building.

Arrivals are handled efficiently, with baggage reclaim located just steps from the exit doors. Due to the airport’s size, walking distances are minimal, queues are typically short, and luggage delivery is usually quick.

Where to Stay Close to Deauville-Normandie Airport

For those needing accommodation near the airport, nearby Saint-Gatien-des-Bois offers quiet rural stays including Le Clos Deauville Saint-Gatien. Travellers seeking convenience within Deauville itself can choose from hotels such as Hôtel Barrière Le Normandy or Hôtel Le Trophée.

Honfleur, just 10-15 minutes away, also provides excellent boutique options like La Ferme Saint Simeon, ideal for those wanting a more scenic coastal base.

Getting To and From Deauville-Normandie Airport

By Bus

Public buses do not operate directly to the airport. Seasonal shuttle buses may run during major events or on specific charter flight days, but schedules vary significantly.

By Taxi

Taxis are available outside the terminal and are the most reliable transfer option. The journey to Deauville usually takes 10-15 minutes, with fares depending on distance and time of day. Taxis also serve nearby towns such as Honfleur, Trouville, and Pont-l'Évêque.

By Train

There is no train station at the airport. Travellers can reach the nearest stations in Deauville-Trouville or Pont-l'Évêque by taxi, connecting to services toward Paris and regional Normandy destinations.

You can use SNCF Connect to check schedules, compare routes, and purchase tickets for National (SNCF ) and regional trains (TER). For a more streamlined experience, we recommend using Omio, which allows you to easily compare prices, schedules, and book tickets for both National and Regional travel across all of Europe, all in one place.

By Car

The airport is located close to the D289, with fast connections to Deauville, Honfleur, and Caen. Car rental companies operate seasonally inside the terminal, and parking facilities are available directly outside the building.

If you are looking to rent a car in France I recommend having a look at Discover Cars, first, as they compare prices and review multiple car rental agencies for you.

By Transfers and Shuttles

Private transfers are useful during peak tourism periods or for groups attending events. Many hotels, especially in Deauville, can arrange transfers upon request.

Arriving at Deauville-Normandie Airport

Arrivals are simple thanks to the airport’s small size. Passport control, when required, is normally quick, and passengers usually reach the baggage area within minutes of landing. With limited simultaneous flights, crowds are rare.

The arrivals hall includes basic services such as local information, taxi stands, and seasonal car rental desks. Travellers can easily exit the terminal and begin their onward journey without delays.

Money Exchange & Currency Tips for France

France uses the euro, and ATMs are generally the most convenient way to obtain cash. Exchange counters at smaller airports are limited, and Deauville-Normandie Airport may not always offer full exchange services, so withdrawing money in advance or in Deauville is advisable.

Card payments are widely accepted throughout Normandy, though small cafés and rural shops may prefer cash. Travellers should avoid dynamic currency conversion when paying by card to obtain better rates.

SIM Cards & Connectivity

SIM cards from major French operators such as Orange, SFR, and Bouygues Telecom are not consistently sold at the airport. Travellers can purchase SIMs easily in Deauville or Honfleur. Free Wi-Fi may be available in parts of the terminal, although speeds can vary.

Departing from Deauville-Normandie Airport

Departures are typically smooth due to low passenger traffic. Check-in counters open according to flight schedules, and security queues are generally short. Once through security, the departure lounge offers seating and limited refreshments, appropriate for the airport’s seasonal flight volume.

Travellers should arrive early during summer months or when attending large events, as occasional charter operations can increase crowd levels.

"Was here about 4 years ago and there was no food available then as was now. There are a couple of vending machines for food and drink. Otherwise theairport was fine all very relaxed.
