Detailed Guide to the Area’s of Catania

Centro Storico

Where To Stay In Centro Storico Catania

Centro Storico is the heart of Catania, where history, culture, and vibrant city life come together. This area is home to Piazza Duomo, the Cathedral of Sant’Agata, and Teatro Massimo Bellini, making it the best location for visitors who want to be surrounded by historic landmarks. The streets are filled with Baroque architecture, lively markets, and bustling cafés, offering an authentic Sicilian experience. Staying here means easy access to restaurants, nightlife, and major attractions, making it an excellent choice for first-time visitors.

Things to See & Do in Centro Storico

  • Explore Piazza Duomo and visit the Cathedral of Sant’Agata
  • Walk along Via Etnea, Catania’s main shopping street
  • Discover local flavors at La Pescheria fish market
  • Visit the Roman Amphitheater and Ursino Castle
  • Enjoy Sicilian cuisine in historic restaurants and trattorias

What’s the Catch?

Centro Storico is a lively and often crowded area, which means it can get noisy, especially in the evenings. While it offers a great selection of hotels and guesthouses, accommodations tend to be pricier compared to other districts. Parking can be a challenge due to narrow streets and limited spots, so those traveling by car may need to leave their vehicle outside the historic center.

This district is ideal for travelers who want to stay away from tourist crowds and experience daily Sicilian life.
