History and Significance of Tao Dan Park

Established during the French colonial era, Tao Dan Park has long served as one of the city's principal green spaces. Designed as part of Saigon's early urban planning, its wide avenues, symmetrical gardens, and open lawns reflect typical French influences seen throughout the city.

Over time, the park has evolved into a gathering place where generations of residents come to exercise, relax, and connect with nature. Its cultural landmarks, such as the Hùng Kings Temple, add depth to its significance, honouring Vietnam’s legendary founders and providing a quiet setting for reflection within the city centre.

Things to See and Do in Tao Dan Park

Visitors to Tao Dan Park can enjoy peaceful walking paths shaded by towering trees, perfectly sculpted hedges, and vibrant tropical flowers. The park is busiest at sunrise, when locals perform tai chi and group exercises, creating a lively yet calm atmosphere.

The Birds’ Garden is one of the park’s most charming features, where aviaries house colourful and exotic bird species. The sounds of birdsong add a soothing soundtrack to the garden’s peaceful pathways.

Be sure to visit the Hùng Kings Temple, a traditional Vietnamese structure built to honour the ancient founders of the nation. Its wooden architecture, curved roof, and serene altar make it a quiet place for contemplation. "September 23rd Park is one of my favorite spots in Saigon! It’s a great place to relax and stay active. The park is filled with beautiful, largetrees such as Royal Poinciana, Parasol Tree, and Monkey Pod, creating a refreshing green canopy. There’s also a lovely lotus pool in full bloom, making it a peaceful spot to sit, relax, and enjoy nature. And plenty of space for sports like jogging, badminton, and tai chi, it’s perfect for both nature lovers and fitness fans. The Taka Underground Market adds extra fun with food and gifts, and monthly events keep the park lively and welcoming. It’s really close to other traditional and special spots in Saigon like Bến Thành Market and the Metro station,... so you can easily combine a visit here with exploring the city. Truly a perfect mix of nature, sports, and shopping in the heart of HCMC..."
