The Podesta Palace, also known as Palazzo del Podesta, stands as a prominent historical landmark cherished by history and architecture enthusiasts. It was initially constructed in 1200 to serve as the first seat of government in Bologna. However, due to its insufficient size, the Palazzo Re Enzo was later built to accommodate the expanding governmental needs.

In 1453, the palace underwent significant renovations, including the replacement of the bell and the reconstruction of the original Gothic facade in the Renaissance style. To this day, the palace continues to captivate visitors with its rich historical significance. Of particular interest is the Voltone del Podesta, renowned for its exceptional acoustics, allowing individuals to hear whispers from opposite sides of the vault.

For those with an appreciation for architecture, the intricately carved pillars of the portico are a must-see, adorned with 3,000 unique rosettes. Additionally, special attention should be given to the Campanazzo, a bell installed in the bell tower in 1453.

Located on Piazza Maggiore, adjacent to the Palazzo Comunale, the palace serves as the home of the Bologna tourism office and hosts various cultural and artistic exhibitions. Visitors can explore the Palazzo del Podesta during designated events and access the tourism office from Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 7 pm, and on Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm.
