Marina Piccola is one of the best places to visit in Capri if you're seeking sun-soaked relaxation paired with breathtaking scenery. Tucked beneath the towering cliffs of Monte Solaro, this sheltered bay has attracted visitors since Roman times. Its turquoise waters, gentle breezes, and dramatic views of the Faraglioni make it a postcard-perfect corner of the island where you can slow down and savor the coastal beauty.

With pebble beaches, seaside cafés, and calm waves, Marina Piccola offers a quieter alternative to the busier Marina Grande. This spot is often visited on walking tours of Capri, especially for those exploring the scenic paths leading down from Capri Town. Whether you're lounging on a sunbed, dipping into the Mediterranean, or enjoying a seafood lunch overlooking the sea, Marina Piccola embodies Capri at its most relaxed.

History and Significance of Marina Piccola

Marina Piccola has been cherished since antiquity. Its sheltered position on the island's southern coast made it a favored landing spot for sailors in Roman times, and its proximity to dramatic coastal formations has long captured the imagination of visitors. Legends even associate this area with Homer's sirens, whose mythical songs were said to echo through these waters.

The bay's natural protection from strong winds has contributed to its enduring reputation as a safe and pleasant place to swim. Over the centuries, fishermen, travelers, and locals relied on its calm waters, while the cliffs above offered shelter from the elements. As Capri evolved into a world-famous destination, Marina Piccola remained one of the most tranquil and scenic parts of the island.

Today, its timeless charm endures. The beaches, promenades, and sea views draw visitors who want to connect with Capri’s nature while escaping the crowds of the town and port.

Things to See and Do in Marina Piccola

Marina Piccola is best known for its beaches-Spiaggia di Marina Piccola and Spiaggia delle Sirene-small stretches of pebbles with wonderfully clear water. Beach clubs provide loungers and umbrellas, making it easy to settle in for a day of swimming and sun.

The views of the Faraglioni from the bay are spectacular. As the sun moves across the sky, the rock formations shift in color from pale stone to golden amber, creating perfect photo opportunities. The seaside promenade provides additional viewpoints, as well as cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy fresh seafood.

For walkers, Marina Piccola connects beautifully with scenic paths, including the descent from Capri Town and the iconic Via Krupp when it is open. These routes offer dramatic glimpses of the cliffs and coastline, adding a sense of adventure to the visit.

What Other Travellers Say...

Reviews Summary

Lo Scoglio Delle Sirene on Via Mulo in Capri sits on a rocky outpost overlooking Marina Piccola and the Faraglioni, offering sweeping sea views and direct access to a private “beach” with ladders for swimming; several visitors praise the fresh seafood, homemade pasta and cocktails and note helpful recommendations and quick service at times, while others warn of inconsistent cooking (rubbery octopus and calamari reported), slow or rude service, high prices and cash-only payment, so expect superb views and beach access but variable food and service.

"Hands down the best location for a restaurant with an incredible 270* view of the sea. My grandson and I visited for lunch and were shown to the bestoutdoor table in the establishment . Drinks were served promptly, and my grandson enjoyed his home made pasta with a vegetarian sauce very much. I had decided to delay my lunch and enjoy the ambiance, then watched my grandson swim and jump from the rocks. When I finally requested a menu to order my lunch, I was ignored for about 40 minutes despite the restaurant being almost empty. Finally the waiter showed up with a menu, the seafood with home made pasta did not take long to arrive and was delicious. Although the food is expensive, cash only I was told on bill presentation, and the staff rude, I give high marks for the incredible view and good food...."

"Sadly disappointing. They bring the salad then 5 minutes later they bring the pasta. Not very experienced ran restaurant. Pasta wasn’t that good. Theseafood had a fishy smell to it. The red cabbage doesn’t make for a good salad.n71.00 euros worth only about 14-20 euros. Other places charge 22 for the same pasta they charge 36. You Find better. It’s all about location not the food. We regret giving this place our business. The Bald guy told me it was 4 euros service but it’s 4 euros each. He also came over to the table real fast grabbing our cash out of wife’s hand. Beyond rude. Please don’t go here...."
