Chateau Latour
Castle and Vinyard in Bordeaux

Château Latour is one of the most prestigious wine estates in Bordeaux, France, classified as a Premier Cru (First Growth) in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Located in the Pauillac appellation, near the Gironde estuary, the estate has a history dating back to at least the 14th century. The name “Latour” originates from a medieval tower that once stood on the property, serving as a defensive structure during the Hundred Years’ War. Over the centuries, Château Latour has been recognized for its exceptional terroir, producing wines that are known for their intensity, structure, and remarkable aging potential.
The estate produces three wines: the Grand Vin de Château Latour, which is the flagship wine made from the best parcels of the vineyard; Les Forts de Latour, a second wine introduced in 1966; and Pauillac de Latour, a third wine released annually since 1989. The vineyard is planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, creating wines with deep complexity and longevity. Château Latour is known for its meticulous winemaking process, including strict grape selection and aging in high-quality French oak barrels, ensuring consistency and excellence in every vintage.
Château Latour has maintained its reputation as one of the finest Bordeaux estates, attracting collectors and wine enthusiasts worldwide. Unlike many other châteaux, Latour made a bold decision in 2012 to stop selling its wines en primeur, opting instead to release bottles only when they are deemed ready to drink. This approach ensures that consumers experience the wines at their peak maturity. Whether enjoyed young or aged for decades, Château Latour remains a benchmark for Bordeaux wines, embodying the rich heritage and craftsmanship of the region.
