Yemen, country situated at the south-western corner of the Arabian Peninsula. It has a land border to the north with Saudi Arabia and to the east with Oman. Its southern coast overlooks the Arabian sea and its west over the Red Sea.

It is mostly mountainous and generally arid, with its narrow coastal plain in the south giving way to a mountainous region and then a plateau area.

Once home to the biblical kingdom of Sheba, and at the beginning of the 20th century divided between the British and Ottoman empires the country is full of mountain villages, marine life-rich coral reefs, and forests boasting some of the rarest tree species in the world.
