Burkina Faso is a landlocked country in West Africa, formerly known as Upper Volta. It is surrounded by Mali to the north, Togo and Ghana to the south, Niger to the east, Benin to the south-east and Côte d’Ivoire to the south-west.

One of the poorest countries in the world, tourism in Burkina Faso remains a struggling industry, the towns are largely undeveloped with small markets stalls selling handcrafted goods.
