Myanmar, also called Burma, is the northern most country of south-east Asia, bordered to the north by China, the east by Laos, south-east by Thailand , the, west by Bangladesh and north west by India. Facing the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Gulf of Martaban to its west.

Myanmar slopes from north to south, from towering peaks in the extreme north to sea level at fertile delta of the Irrawaddy River in the south.

Closed to Western travelers for most of the 20th century, the astounding Buddhist architecture, rich traditions, delicious food and deep jungles have only recently been within reach for most travelers.
