Iran Travel Guide
A large country, formerly known as Persia, can be considered part of the Middle East or Central Asia. It is bordered by Turkey, Armenia, and Azerbaijan to the north-west, Turkmenistan to the north-east, Afghanistan and Pakistan to the east and Iraq to the west. To its north lies the Caspian Sea and to the south the Persian Gulf.
When you leave its coastal areas much of Iran consists of a central desert plateau, which is surrounded by mountain ranges.
Visitors visits to cozy coffee shops in Tehran, see the bustle in the open-air markets, discover vast deserts dotted with oases or head back in time to see the remnants of the Persian empire in cities like Persepolis, the old Persian capital burned down by Alexander the Great.
