The Funicular de Santa Luza, commonly known as the “elevator”, has a station located on Av. 25 de Abril near the Hospital. It sits on high ground behind the train station, and can be reached either by taking a free elevator at the train station and crossing a metal bridge or by going inside Viana Shopping.

With a length of 650 meters, it is the longest funicular in the country and takes about 7 minutes to ascend to a height of 160 meters. First built in 1923, the funicular was recently fully refurbished. Its small cabin can accommodate around 12 passengers and operates every 15 minutes. A return ticket costs 3 euros.

The funicular operates from January 1st to May 31st and from October 1st to December 31st, from 8 am to 6 pm. During the summer months, from June 1st to September 30th, it operates from 8 am to 8 pm.

The Funicular dos Guindais, also known as The Guindais Funicular, is an elegant and unique way of getting from one part of the city to the other.

The Guindais Funicular is a railway in Porto, Portugal that uses a cable and inclined plane system to transport passengers up and down a steep cliff. The original line was opened in 1891 but was decommissioned after an accident in 1893. The former “House” of the funicular railway was later used by a sculptor and then as a meeting hall for Jehovah’s Witnesses. In 2004, a new funicular and station were built, following the same route as the original. The new funicular is owned and operated by the Porto Metro, has a single track, and is equipped with two vehicles that can carry 25 passengers each. The journey is short, taking about 3 minutes, but offers views of the Dom Luís I Bridge, the Ribeira and Cais de Gaia quays, and the Douro River.
